Mission Trip to Haiti

November 3, 2011

Robert Wheeler recently went on a mission trip to Haiti with his church for one week. They sent 16 people that split into two teams: construction and medical. Robert was on the construction team and his wife, Tanya, was on the medical team.

The construction team helped build two homes and start on a thrid. The homes were concrete blockhouses with four walls, a concrete floor, and a tin roof. The houses were only about 12 by 16 fee, but the families were thrilled to be moving out of the small tents they have been living in for over one and a half years.

The medical team treated over 1,400 Haitians during the week. Most were treated for colds, malnutrition, and Cholera. The team unfortunately experienced seeing a young girl with Cholera die in her father's arms.

Haiti is still a disaster area in need of help and it will take many years for them to recover. Even with all of the distrction and hopelessness, most of the haitians had a smile on their face and were happy to meet us.

This video is a glimpse into some of what the teams experienced.
